Kiwifruit Vine Health

Kiwifruit is the only primary industry in New Zealand with a dedicated organisation focused on managing biosecurity risk - a reflection of the importance the industry places on protecting its future. 

Established following the Psa-V incursion in 2010, Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH) leads biosecurity readiness, response, and operational activities for the New Zealand kiwifruit industry. Our work is funded by grower levies under the Biosecurity Act.

KVH works closely with growers and collaborates with key industry partners, including Zespri, New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated (NZKGI), post-harvest operators, beekeepers, pollen suppliers, nurseries, contractors, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), and other primary sector organisations through the Government Industry Agreement for Biosecurity Readiness and Response (GIA).

In addition, KVH coordinates the kiwifruit industry's Emergency Response Management (ERM) framework, supporting growers through significant adverse events that impact production and business continuity.

Awareness of biosecurity's significance and its practical application in all primary industries has increased over the years. Investing in the next generation of industry leaders is critical to maintaining a strong biosecurity culture and ensuring our sector remains prepared to meet future challenges.
